Currently, R & C Development Center, Inc.’s registration is open to 5th to 8th graders. However, R & C Development Center, Inc. is in the process of developing additional programs that will serve Elementary School (3rd and 4th graders) as well as High School students.
Junior Development Program
In order to meet all of our objectives, R & C Development Center, Inc.’s Junior Development program will consist of the following components:
After–School Program
Currently our After-School program will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 4 pm until 6 pm. Participants will be picked up from their schools and transported to the site. R & C Development Center, Inc. staff will assist participants with their academic needs. The purpose of the After-School Program is to facilitate academic excellence which will be achieved by assisting our youth with school assignments, equipping them with the necessary problem-solving skills, and collaborating with educators in the community who will provide further academic instruction. Participants will be provided with a meal and a snack. Transportation will be provided.
Restaurant Etiquette Experiences
R & C Development Center, Inc. is committed to enriching the lives of our youth by providing them with the opportunity to learn appropriate behaviors while dining in public. Our participants’ engagement in Restaurant Etiquette Experiences will occur on Saturday evenings throughout the program year.
In-State College Campus Tours
R & C Development Center, Inc. believes that it is essential to inform our youth at an early age of the limitless opportunities that a college education can provide. We understand that there are several paths to success, but we uphold the belief that the pursuit and achievement of a higher education mitigate several challenges that may arise during adulthood. In order to open the minds of our youth to this pathway, participants will tour the educational institutions throughout North Carolina. These tours are scheduled to take place during the summer camp and on Saturdays.
5-Week Summer Camp
During our free five-week Summer Camp, participants will be provided with breakfast and lunch. R & C Development Center, Inc. will create a classroom experience that aims to engage the participants and foster an environment that encourages our youth to be critical and innovative thinkers as well as empowers them to confidently articulate their thoughts. Our summer camp will promote physical fitness by organizing group activities that encourage our youth to be active.
Educational Day Trips
Educational Day Trips will expose our youth to positive, alternative activities that will enrich their cultural worldviews and knowledge bases. Participants will be given the opportunity to learn about a variety of subjects, cultures, and phenomena by exploring wildlife parks and zoos, visiting museums, attending plays, and much more. These trips are scheduled to take place during the summer camp, school holiday breaks, and on Saturdays.
Annual Educational Overnight Trip
R & C Development Center, Inc. understands that underserved youth may not be afforded similar opportunities as their counterparts and is committed to bridging the gap by providing our youth with the opportunity to experience life outside of their communities, cities, or State. Our Annual Educational Overnight Trip will take place during the month of August before the cessation of summer break. There will be several chaperones to maintain the safety and organization of the trip.
